Designed by KMF Architects and Brooks + Scarpa, the Collaboratory Building for the University of Florida's College of Design, Construction and Planning reimagines how students, faculty, and researchers learn, create, and work together. The project expands the college's existing facilities with nearly 50,000 square feet of new space while modernizing and transforming the existing building into a dynamic hub for innovation, collaboration, and discovery.

At the heart of the project is the idea that the most impactful solutions emerge when disciplines intersect. The Collaboratory Building brings together students and professionals from architecture, construction management, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, interior design, and related fields within an environment specifically designed to encourage interaction, creativity, and shared learning.

The facility features flexible, reconfigurable collaboration spaces that support both formal and informal engagement, allowing students and faculty to work together across disciplines. Dedicated research hubs provide a centralized home for the college's research centers and institutes, fostering the exchange of ideas and advancing solutions to complex societal and environmental challenges.

The building also includes advanced digital modeling and fabrication facilities, providing opportunities for hands-on experimentation, prototyping, simulation, and emerging technologies. Specialized spaces support digital fabrication, 3D printing, virtual reality, geospatial modeling, and immersive visualization, giving students and researchers access to the tools shaping the future of the design and construction industries.

A new multipurpose hall and seminar spaces create a venue for lectures, exhibitions, public engagement, and academic events, strengthening connections between the college, the university, and the broader community.

By combining cutting-edge technology, flexible learning environments, and collaborative research spaces, the Collaboratory Building establishes a new model for interdisciplinary education and innovation. The project reflects the College of Design, Construction and Planning's commitment to preparing future leaders while advancing research that will shape the built environment for generations to come.
