Fire Station 31 is a new 16,000-square-foot, two-story fire station designed for Orange County Fire Rescue in the Dr. Phillips community of Orlando, Florida. The project transforms a highly constrained 1.5-acre site into a modern public safety facility that supports emergency response operations while meeting the long-term needs of firefighters and the surrounding community.
The station includes three drive-through apparatus bays, living quarters, administrative offices, training and fitness spaces, decontamination areas, support functions, and community meeting space. Careful planning was required to accommodate the building, emergency vehicle circulation, parking, fueling infrastructure, backup power generation, and stormwater management within the limited site area.
Working closely with Orange County Fire Rescue personnel, KMF Architects developed a design that balances operational efficiency, firefighter wellness, and community presence. Extensive collaboration with end users informed the layout of the station, ensuring that daily workflows, response times, and living conditions were thoughtfully integrated into the design.
The two-story configuration allowed the project team to maximize the site's potential while creating a highly functional and future-focused facility. Through innovative planning and close coordination with engineering consultants, KMF successfully delivered a design that overcomes significant site constraints and provides a durable, efficient, and welcoming environment for the firefighters who serve the Dr. Phillips community.
Currently in construction, Fire Station 31 represents Orange County's continued investment in public safety infrastructure and demonstrates KMF's expertise in delivering complex public safety facilities on challenging sites.
