Assessment

KMF Architects, in collaboration with Corgan, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the historic Cherokee School campus for Orange County Public Schools. The project focused on evaluating the condition, significance, and future potential of one of Orlando's most recognizable educational landmarks, providing the District with critical information to support long-term planning and preservation efforts.
The assessment included a detailed review of the building's architectural character, existing conditions, structural systems, and historical significance. Through extensive field investigations and documentation, the team evaluated the facility's current state while identifying opportunities to preserve and enhance its historic features for future generations.
As a property with deep connections to the community and Orange County's educational history, the Cherokee campus required a thoughtful balance between preservation, functionality, and future adaptability. KMF and Corgan worked closely with Orange County Public Schools to develop a comprehensive understanding of the building's strengths, challenges, and long-term viability, creating a framework for future decision-making.
The resulting assessment serves as a valuable planning tool, helping the District evaluate potential restoration, renovation, and reuse strategies while protecting the architectural and cultural significance of the campus. By documenting existing conditions and establishing a clear understanding of the facility's needs, the project lays the groundwork for informed investments that will preserve the school's legacy while supporting the evolving needs of students, educators, and the community.
The Cherokee School assessment reflects KMF Architects' commitment to historic preservation, educational facilities, and the responsible stewardship of community landmarks. Through careful analysis and strategic planning, the project helps ensure that an important piece of Orange County's educational heritage can continue to serve future generations.
